As the trail approaches Bishop Lake the Valley ends with a sharp climb up multiple switchbacks to Bishop Pass.
If you look closely you can see that switchbacks at the center of the picture. To the left is Mt Agassiz, 13,899 feet, is one of the twenty highest peaks of California. In 1879, Lilbourne Winchell named it Agassiz Needle for Harvard University professor of zoology and geology Louis Agassiz.
