The weather was magnificent for Troop 20’s return to Noble Canyon after trips in 2005, 2006, and 2007.  We stopped at Janet’s Montana Café in Alpine for breakfast and dropped a car at the lower Pine Valley Trailhead and then wound our way up the back road to the Penny Pines Trailhead on the S2.  Had a nice casual walk down the trail with 6 scouts:  Mike, Alex, Erik, Edward, Kolin and Paul.  We left the upper trailhead around 10am and arrived at our usual camp at around 2:30pm.  We set up camp and the Scouts played Eagle Eye until dark at 4:30pm.  Campfires were prohibited, so we pulled out our “Katrina Meals” we had received up at Mataguay this summer and their self-heating feature worked out pretty well and we all had a good meal.  Afterwards we told ghost stories and played cards by lamplight.  Most everyone  went to bed around 7pm.  Everyone was up around 6:00 am and started breaking camp pretty automatically.  Clyde arrived from the lower trailhead around 8 am and we worked our way down the trail.   We stopped at the old mine entrance and the scouts went in and followed it all the way to the back, and found the bats living there.  We arrived at trails end around 11:30am or so and were able to get to the Frosty Burger in Pine Valley around noon for a big lunch, then home.
